new Hay shed!

We had a very short break in the middle of the summer to throw together a hay shed, with the time and some outside circumstances we got fire under us and hauled ass... it took us about a month, but that's only the weekends.  One weekend we were rained out, another we had prior obligations we couldn't cancel...so we really built it in maybe seven to eight days.

It was SO hot....being on a roof in late July in Montana is no joke.

Where I started.....being on an extreme budget, we had to utilize what we had. And what we had was old fence that we had taken down, de-nailed, and stacked for future use.  The base of the shed is made from peeler posts from the fence, not the most ideal foundation, but treated and sturdy.
The walls had to be two sections as most of the boards didn't have enough length in good wood to get a 8' section. So the lower section is 6'.

We did purchase new boards for the rafters.
Every single board was warped. It made blocking extremely tedious to install. We added some primed T-11 siding to wrap it all up.

It was pretty exciting to see it become enclosed. So close to holding hay!

My dad came out and painted it for my birthday, he even managed to get the trim painted.

PictureDon't judge my terrible stacking, after stacking 4.5 tons I was pretty tired.

Happy to report we are fully stocked for winter! No more tarping, no more filling hay bags in the elements, no more lost hay due to terrible tarps leaking. **Happy Burro Dance**

I created a calculator to help estimate feed needs and costs.  This calculator is set up for 50/50 feeding of hay and barley straw.  You can adjust individual animal's intake percentage as well.

We had to leave our beautiful donkey barn behind at our old property.  We now have to completely rebuild.
