We took the donkeys for a picnic hike to Cottonwood Creek. We have never been to this trail before and it was pretty good! There were alot of off leash dogs, but the donkeys did REALLY WELL! They didn't get weird about any of them. We did have a few dogs just be terrified of the donkeys though. We might bring treats next time, if the owners approve. There was one Griffon that had the hardest time with them, he ran down the trail in fear, I felt really bad, but hopefully he left with the sentiment that donkeys won't hurt him. I was hoping this trail would be good for social walks, but due to the amount of dogs and how narrow the trail is, I don't think it's a good candidate (especially with pack saddles on!). The hunt continues. I apologize for the shaky video, we'll be taking the go pro on the next outing. Just finished up a new rope bowl for sale. This bowl I would consider to be a valet bowl, perfect for putting frequently used items into. I put my belt buckles and sunglasses in mine. Available in my Etsy shop HERE
I recently got Farley's stamp edited to put onto products, here's some items that are new. Click on the photo to be taken to the product pages.
The donkeys did their first parade! (Rocky may have done a parade or two when he was at Hithger.org with Dave), they did great aside from Daisy being a little impatient at the beginning. So happy I had help! It was a lot more work than I anticipated! Plus since our truck died I had no way of getting the wagon to the parade with out help. The parade had a huge turnout! I was surprised, it's a lot bigger than my old town's parade. There were tons of smiling kids! I never heard the word 'donkey' so many times in my life, it was great. We are definitely doing it again next year.
The donkeys have been enjoying some time off while I get caught up on life. One thing that happened that isn't so fun, is our truck blew its motor. We're super bummed, we only had it for a year! We expected it to last much longer. So its a little different with having one vehicle at the moment. I had to finish up repairing pack saddles and panniers, as the donkeys will be in a parade this coming weekend! I'm excited as this will be their first parade! I had to weedeat in the donkey pasture....if a poo touches a grass 5" away that grass is no longer edible lol. I dont blame them, but it looks super funny having these giant patches of thick tall green grass everywhere.
Hoping to get a social walk or a hike in this weekend. Donkeys are looking a little pudgy, and in all fairness I did try a new feeding tactic with them that didn't work out at all. They loved it though! Today we did some mounted archery, I just bought this bow off of ebay (half price of the same one on amazon!) and promptly lost an arrow the first night I used it (without the donkeys). I had tried archery one time about four or five years ago with my friends. Donkeys were not phased by it at all, but we stayed at a walk. Today was different both donkeys wanted to GO! So I let them. It was so much fun! I'm pretty awful about reloading the bow, but I'll get better eventually! The donkeys had their first meetup this last weekend on July 14th. We had four walkers and we had a wonderful time. The donkeys both were very good, although there was quite a bit of snacking on the walk...can't blame them, the grass is so tall right now!
we attended the annual Gallatin Valley Backcountry Horsemen's Poker Ride held at Bridger Bowl Ski area. I asked the gals in the registration tent if it was ok to ride a donkey on the ride, they seemed surprised and said it was ok! One lady even said ' I didnt know you could ride a donkey!' There were so many trailers! This chapter is so much bigger than my old one, its really a great thing! I didn't know anyone! there was a medium sized creek crossing at the end of this section and it took us three attempts before Daisy would cross it. Which means I had to stand in the creek three times lol, so thankful for waterproof riding boots!
The trail was very steep, narrow, and muddy after this. We had to stop numerous times to catch our breath (I was still on foot). |
We had to leave our beautiful donkey barn behind at our old property. We now have to completely rebuild.
